Servando Garcia works with analogies between the subject matter of his paintings, and the object and process of painting itself. The often domestic nature of his subject matter become platforms for expression and spatial exploration; paintings of walls reveal an response to the potential of a flat space; images of newborn children exhibit a tension of development and process, while paintings of rain indulge the phenomena of dripping paint. Garcia was a recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant in 2005. He obtained his BFA at the San Francisco Art Institute and his MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2007. He lives and works in the Bay Area.
